iPhone Home Screen Cleanup Project: Day 2

I know I hinted at updating you guys on this project somewhere in the middle, but I’m thinking it might be somewhat interesting to see how this whole situation progresses on a daily basis. This also coincides with another experiment I’m conducting on this here blog in full view of the handful of folks who read this regularly, but we’ll revisit that after we talk about this iPhone stuff for a minute.

Here’s the home screen near the end of day 2:

As expected, Tweetie and Mail have already returned to their rightful positions in the dock of ubiquity. The other showing that doesn’t surprise me one lick is Google Reader (that’s a Web Clip, not a native application, if you’re wondering), which is a go-to for me when I have a few minutes of down time. I am, however a little surprised by the presence of the remaining apps (not a ton, though):

Words With Friends - This app is a network-capable Scrabble clone that lets you play this game (a favorite of mine) with people you know who also happen to have iPhones. My playing has slowed lately, but today it was opened about 3 times and, thus, here it is.

Tumblr – I’ve talked about Tumblr before and have recently been getting reacquainted with it as an alternative to Twitter. I really enjoy the social aspect of it, since the “like” and “reblog” features are pretty ubiquitous across most Tumblr sites, it’s easy to leave passive or active feedback for somebody. I’m planning on doing more with this service in the coming months, but I’m still sorting out exactly what that activity will look like.

Messages (formerly SMS) – I send a fair number of text messages, so I guess this one isn’t all that surprising. Most of my SMS-style communication, however, takes place on the Twitter (which I prefer, frankly).

I’m curious to see what tomorrow brings to my home screen. So far, it’s not looking exactly like I thought it would — I really expected an earlier showing from Instapaper (one of my top 3 apps of all time, easy), but that could just be because today was abnormally busy for me.

Oh, so about that other experiment I mentioned before (I’ll keep this brief)…

I’ve decided that, instead of simply posting long-ish articles here twice per week, I’m going to make more of a home here. Expect the post frequency to increase and sometimes fluctuate, as well as the overall tone of the site become a better balance of goofy made-up words and thought-provoking content.  The topics will be the same (such as they are), but I’m going to make this more of a platform for fostering discussion instead of a soapbox from which I spew my uneducated opinion a couple times a week.

Cool? Cool.
